Martell Single Estate Collection Vignoble C Mongillion Vintage 1989 Cognac 700ml

Description

The Martell Single Estate Collection is an invitation to explore the Cognac region in all its fascinating diversity. It offers a selection of outstanding cognacs, each produced in limited quantities not only from a single cru, but by a single domain. This prestigious collection also highlights another dimension of Maison Martell’s celebrated savoir-faire: its unrivalled knowledge of the terroir and close relationships with winegrowers. 'The C. Mongillon vineyard, consisting of 9.5 hectares of vines in 1989, is situated on particularly fertile land in the prestigious Grande Champagne cru. The vines lie at the bottom of the Genté hillside on marly limestone soil, producing grapes and, in turn, eaux-de-vie of exemplary balance and finesse. It is a pure expression of Grande Champagne. It will appeal to lovers of powerful, structured cognacs. The Martell Cellar Master selected a 1989 eau-de-vie to express the full character of this terroir. The year had all the ingredients for a grape harvest of exceptional quality. Favourable weather brought the vines on unusually early, enabling the grapes to reach full ripeness. Exceptionally high temperatures followed by rainstorms helped the fruit swell and grow rapidly. The vines remained remarkably healthy throughout the cycle.

Nose: Old walnuts, figs and almonds, as well as roasted-coffee aromas.

Taste: A rounded, structures balance characteristic of Grande Champagne with intense flavours of dried fruit, walnuts and almonds. A subtle, beautifully sustained hint of blackcurrant appears at the end.
